A look at herbs
Herbs or otherwise healing plants are the basis of today's medical science, they have been used for thousands of years by many peoples around the world.
Among the oldest peoples who used them as medicine in 3000 BC are the Sumerians, the Chinese and the Egyptians.
In fact, the Egyptian knowledge of medical science at the time of Moses was famous.
Later he also came to Greece where Hippocrates freed it from superstitions and with his treatments he was recognized as the father of medicine.
The herbs as well as the spices are collected from different parts of the plant such as
seeds (Flax), (Thistle ), (Fennel), (Psyllium), (Trigonella),
roots (Valerian), (Soap grass), (Bermuda grass), (Symfyto),
leaves (lemon verbena), (Gingo biloba), (Betula), (Bearberry),
peels (Lapacho), (Slippery elm), (Althaea), (Iris),
flowers (Chamomile), (Linden), (Calendula), (Chasteberry), (Elder berry),
and fruits (Hawthorn), (Cocoa ), (Serenoa), (Juniper).
Herbs are not magical nor do they have magical effects, they contain substances that affect the human body and metabolism. Don't expect herbs to work immediately like drugs. Few herbs have immediate effects. Most herbs work when taken daily and for a long time. Their effectiveness also depends on our lifestyle and diet.
Taking into account the above, we will be able to get the maximum possible effect from the herbs.
Various ways of using herbs are:
Ointment that we can use externally,
A decoction that we boil, usually this is done with the hard parts of the plants,
An infusion that we simply put in hot water,
Extract which we use evaporation to get,
Soaking the plant for hours to days, poultice which is again used for external use, the well-known gargles, compresses and washes.
The essential oils, which are pure extracts of the plant, such as
Tea tree, Sandalwood, Clove, Lavender .
Finally the Tinctures which use alcohol to get the ingredients from the plant without boiling and it is considered that this is probably the best way to get the highest concentration therapeutic ingredients, such as Equisetum Tincture, Passionflower Tincture, Arnica Tincture, Propolis Tincture .
Herbs also include aromatic plants which are widely used in the kitchen, for example oregano, mint, basil.
Most of the aromatic plants also have healing properties. Also, if we want to combine the action of various healing plants, we make herbal mixtures , We combine two or more herbs with the same properties to achieve the maximum effect, such as slimming mixture, relaxing mixture, cold mixture, mixture for arthritis, mixture for kidneys.
Finally, herbs also belong to teas like black tea, green tea, white tea, oolong tea, lapsang tea.
And the same applies to teas as to herbs, i.e. we can have mixtures of teas, various teas mixed together or with various herbs and spices, such as
green tea with jasmine, green tea with Kozani saffron, green tea with pineapple and strawberry, tea with hibiscus and roses and many more.
