Epimedium is a genus of flowering plants of the Berberidaceae family.

Most species are endemic to China, with fewer occurring elsewhere in Asia, and some in the Mediterranean region. They are herbaceous perennials, growing from an underground rhizome. Their developmental habits are somewhat variable. Some have solitary stems, others have a "tufted" habit, with many stems growing close together.

Properties : It has aphrodisiac properties that may be due to the increase in nitric oxide levels which relaxes the soft muscles and allows better blood flow to the sexual organs. Active Ingredients : Epimidium contains a number of flavonoids. 37 compounds were identified from the underground and aerial parts of the plant. Among them, 28 compounds were prenyl flavonoids. The predominant flavonoid, epimedine C, ranged from 1.4 to 5.1% in aerial parts and 1.0 to 2.8% in underground parts.
