Tea has been popular in South Africa for generations and has gained international popularity since the 2000s.
Rooibos are commonly grown in Cederberg, a small mountainous area in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
Generally, the leaves undergo oxidation (often referred to as "fermentation" in common tea processing terminology). This process produces the distinctive reddish-brown color of rooibos and enhances the flavor.
Rooibos tea is usually made in the same way as black tea, usually without or with little milk and / or sugar or honey. Other methods include a slice of lemon and the use of honey instead of sugar to sweeten it.
The tea tastes and colors somewhat similar to hibiscus tea, with a more or less earthy aroma.
Also served as espresso, latte, cappuccino or iced tea.
Rooibos tea does not contain sup> caffeine and has low tannin levels compared to black tea or green tea.
