The Jericho flower is a species of desert plant in the thorny moss family called Selaginellaceae.

Selaginella is known for its ability to survive periods of absolute drought in its natural environment, wrapping its stems in a tight ball and unrolling them only when exposed to moisture.

It is a native plant of the Chihuahuan Desert of New Mexico.

Legend has it that he accompanied the Virgin Mary on her solitary journey from Jerusalem to Egypt and that, out of respect for Her Grace, she "opened" next to Her in every position (possibly in Oases) and closed again to follow in her footsteps.
